What is the AL Housing Trust Fund all About?
LIHCA members have actively sought to create a statewide Housing Trust Fund in Alabama as one mechanism to address the housing crisis. After four (4) years of advocacy and education efforts, LIHCA and its partners saw the creation of the housing trust fund during the 2012 legislative session. The Alabama Affordable Housing Act established a statewide trust fund to provide funding for the creation and maintenance of affordable housing units.
However, funds were never allocated to the housing trust fund. LIHCA's current goals include advocating for a dedicated revenue source for the Alabama Housing Trust Fund (AHTF).
