Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) have been standard equipment on light, medium, and heavy duty vehicles since 2007. Over the life of the vehicle, the DPF may be cleaned 10 times or more and components replaced 2 times or more.
DPFs are unique in that they require regular service, are prone to failure, and are expensive to replace. This situation creates a unique opportunity for service shops to add value to their customers by offering solutions for managing their aftertreatment systems. DPF cleaning is the center point of the service event, and it creates additional opportunities in the areas of diagnostics, repairs, replacement part and component sales, and end of life recycling.
Dr. Bradley L. Edgar is an expert in the area of diesel engines, emissions, and aftertreatment. His talk provides a look backwards to the history and evolution of aftertreatment systems, a review of the current best practices for service, as well as a look forward to where aftertreatment and DPFs are headed. The presentation includes ways in which independent service shops can take advantage of this tremendous opportunity.
This presentation was originally part of NARSA’s 2017 Heavy Duty Heating and Cooling Conference in Buffalo, New York.
