Message from Our Executive Director

The beginning of 2021 will be notable for several reasons. For our friends and association members in Texas, they will remember this year for the devastating winter weather. As if the pandemic was not already enough of a challenge, the weather became another life-threatening event. Texans are not the only ones in the United States to be endangered by extreme weather conditions. We hope you know everyone is in our thoughts and prayers as you endure mother nature and the pandemic.

The NARSA/IDEA staff is focused on offering online training and events to our members. We feel our best contribution to our members is to help them train their present and future workforce.

Please mark your calendars for the second virtual conference the association will be hosting on May 20-21, 2021. We will be offering approximately 6 hours of cooling system and diesel filter continuing education. We hope you will join us for this event. Look out for more information by email, social media and in the upcoming issue of The Cooling Journal.

If you haven’t already listened to Solder & Soot: a NARSA/IDEA podcast, please check it out wherever you tune in to podcasts, whether it be iTunes, Spotify and/or Anchor.

Stay Safe and Warm,

Back to Work After Winter Storm

Earlier this month, millions of people were impacted by severe winter storms. We checked in with NARSA/IDEA members in Texas to see how their businesses were affected.

“We were lucky and had no damages to our shops,” said Elizabeth Dominguez of Don Hart Radiator, which is located in Waller, Texas. “We are back in action today trying to make up from a week of being out.”

“We had to shut down for three days because of no power at our business,” said Van Smith of Kirby’s Radiator Service in Fort Worth, Texas. “Snow covered roads, and most of our employees had no power, or it was intermittent for six days.” It was so cold the test tank froze.

Industrial Radiator in Dallas also had to briefly shut down due to the winter weather, but employees are back in the shop now. According to owner Chad Spence, there were a few pipes affected but no other major issues.

AdRad Radiators:Australian Manufactured modular radiators for Caterpillar

To minimise downtime, Australia’s mining industry needs fast access to modular radiators for modern Caterpillar mining and earthmoving equipment. Until now, holding ample stocks of expensive imported radiator modules was the only option.

Following considerable investment in new manufacturing equipment, plus years of development and testing, Adrad now offers their own Australian made Aluminium Modular Radiator (AMR) and Next Generation Modular Radiator (NGMR) units for Caterpillar applications.

These modular radiators are a direct fit for Caterpillar machines including 773, 775, 777 & 793 Off-Highway Trucks and 24M Grader.
Cores and components are made in Adelaide with units available for immediate delivery with warranty supported by Adrad, Australia’s largest radiator manufacturer.

Extensive testing and in-field trials has proven these Adrad modules have the performance and durability to meet the most demanding CAT OE specifications; including the 100,000 pressure cycle test – which passed first time.
