UN resolution on the role of the Ombudsman

The International Ombudsman Institute is very happy to report that the UN resolution on the role of the Ombudsman (A/RES/72/186) was adopted by consensus on 19 November 2020.

The final version of the resolution is available online and it is due to be adopted by the UN General Assembly before the end of the year.

This is an important further step in securing worldwide recognition for the Ombudsman Institution and establishes the Venice Principles as the global standard.  It will also help to shape the relationship between the IOI and the UN for the future.

This is great news at the end of a challenging year.
